E-portfolio Reflection

Creating this e-portfolio was actually an extremely exciting assignment for me because I find working with websites super fun and I truly enjoy having the opportunity to do this type of stuff, whether it’s in my own time or for a class assignment. Unluckily I do not get to work with these types of assignments very often, which led me to not remember much when it comes to knowing how to use this editor which made it a little complicated at the beginning, but eventually I got the hang of this website editor and took it to my advantage. I definitely believe that this was not a very complicated assignment, but it really does take a lot of time and effort if you want your website to look good. I am a firm believer that it is not only about the content that is on the actual website, but it is also about the format and the way that you present it. You can have amazing information, but if it is not well organized, it will look terrible and it could cause for the viewer to lose interest, which is why I feel the need to spend equal time when working on the website and writing my reflections. Having the opportunity to work on websites like this, really affects my opinions for my future career and I feel as if it helps me feel more stable about my choices; as I have mentioned before I want to become a Graphic Designer yet I had not discovered I wanted to do that until recently. This assignment truly influenced my choices in a positive way and I am truly grateful to have had this chance.  Overall I think that being able to basically put the whole semester together in one website is rather interesting, it really made me look back at my past assignments and I had the opportunity to learn more about them as I did my reflections; I had to think about what I truly learned and what I didn’t, what things I didn’t like about my writing and I also learned how I could improve in those areas myself. I think that I have a lot of potential in writing, but I need to push myself a lot more and be more confident about my work. Not only that but I believe that I could do much better if I improve my researching skills and learn how to manage my time better. For instance, in my genre analysis I feel as if I did not put too much time or interest in learning the concept if I compare it to my literature review and research report.

Advocacy Website Reflection

For our advocacy website, we ended up using one of our teammates topic since we felt as if it was one of the easiest, yet very broad in information topic. The topic we chose is called “Healthcare Correlated with Poverty” and it basically explains how many people rather work the absolute minimum in order to receive help from welfare programs. It briefly explains how many people do this because if there is a medical emergency they are usually very expensive which causes for people to go into debt. We, later on, explain what could be some possible solutions to try help this problem in the United States.
Having the ability to create a website with a group of people in my RWS 1302 classroom was a truly great experience. I really enjoyed having the ability to get to know these people better and really listen to the different ideas that they all have in mind. This project was definitely one of the most complicated ones for me personally, because having to learn something in such a short amount of time could get pretty hard to do when it comes to working in groups. A group project takes so much more time and commitment from all of the teammates which is not always the case. There are always a few flaws here and there and complications that may arise, and I think that this is what made our project much harder. Not only that, but not everyone is suited do to group projects. Another thing that may complicate a group project is that not everyone agrees with a choice that someone may be taking, which can cause problems between the members of the group. Also trying to figure out how we were going to divide the work was a struggle since we did not know whether we should just work on our own or with each other in person.
When it comes to the actual website, we used Weebly, which I noticed is quite different from Wix; I had some trouble figuring out everything, I personally found it more complex, yet I liked some of the different options that it has that Wix does not have. In a way, I felt like I wanted to use Weebly rather than Wix for my personal website, but I had progressed a lot more on my Wix website already and I also think that in Wix you have more freedom to do what you want with your website. I was able to stylize it more like how I wanted it, rather than how the theme looked.
